Settles vs LMN: snow depth without the five-times price

LMN is the one competitor with genuine snow and landscaping depth, so take it seriously. But its licence tiers punish exactly the crew-based operation it targets, it prices in US dollars despite the Toronto office, and it adds an onboarding fee it will not put a number on until you are on the phone.

An LMN by Granum alternative for growing crews

LMN knows this industry. Plow passes, salt applications, proof of service, and invoices generated automatically from crew logs after a storm. Its estimating and budgeting run deeper than ours. If you need heavy landscape estimating today and can absorb the cost, it is a real tool and we respect it.

The cost is the catch. LMN Starter covers one office user and five crew licences, so an eight-person crew jumps to Professional at US$648 a month, roughly $902 CAD, about five times Settles. Every tier also carries a one-time onboarding fee that is not disclosed anywhere, and the pricing page does not even state which currency it means. Settles is building toward the same snow depth, at one flat Canadian price and no setup fee.

The number that decides it

About 5× the price

At an eight-person crew, LMN Professional is roughly $902 CAD a month against $164 on Settles, plus an undisclosed one-time onboarding fee. LMN's pricing page states no currency; USD is assumed from its US listings.

What it costs as your crew grows

Every figure below is in Canadian dollars. LMN by Granum's column uses its cheapest available rate, so this is the most conservative comparison; on the monthly, no-commitment pricing most small contractors actually pay, the gap is wider.

LMN's column uses its published Starter rate (about US$297 per month, one office plus five crew licences) at a small crew, and Professional (about US$648, three office plus fifteen crew) once you pass six people, converted at 1 USD = 1.3926 CAD. LMN's page reads 'starting at' and states no currency, and a one-time onboarding fee applies on top that is not disclosed.

Which plan you have to buy

The useful question is not whether LMN by Granum has a feature. It is which tier you must buy to get it, and in which currency you pay. Settles is one flat plan.

When LMN by Granum is the better choice

You need deep landscape estimating and budgeting today, you can absorb roughly five times the cost plus an onboarding fee, and licence-capped crew tiers fit how your team is structured.

If that is you, buy LMN by Granum. We would rather tell you now than after you have moved your data.

What Settles does not do

No live QuickBooks or Xero sync: you export a QuickBooks Online import file for invoices and payments each month instead. Settles does not run payroll and never touches your bank account: it tells you what you owe each person, and you pay them however you do today. If any of those is a hard requirement, a bigger platform will serve you better.

What it does do: scheduling, crew time tracking, job checklists with photo proof, invoicing with online card payment, e-transfer tracking for Canadian clients, and a profit and loss view built from real logged hours. You can import your clients and jobs from a spreadsheet, including an export from another tool, so setup is quick.
